To fit a 600 page novel into a little over two hours clearly means that many scenes from the book will never make it onto the silver screen, however, at least a couple of hours of extra scenes were filmed, only to end up on the cutting room floor.

Pierre Morel to direct Dune?
According to Entertainment Weekly, Paramount has hired Pierre Morel (Taken, 13th District) to take over as director on the new Dune movie, and are looking for a new script writer to incorporate Morel's ideas into the current script by Josh Zetumer.
